oatmilk

How it came to be.

The reality of how expensive groceries are becoming, is really settling in. I kept wondering if there are more creative ways my family and I can save a few more bucks! So I figured let’s try to make our own oatmilk. This was way easier than I thought. There’s also something extremely empowering about making “milk” from scratch. Almost makes you feel like you can do ANYTHING. Keep scrolling down the gallery on how this recipe came to be.

helpful items used.

Some items that made this recipe so much easier is this NUTBAG strainer from Amazon and the GLASS BOTTLE to store the milk in, which was so convenient to purchase because it is multi-use. The strainer is a must. I was able to strain out all the milk out and no clumps or grains from the oats were found in this recipe. I also love it because you can use it for making other milk alternatives. I learned that this strainer can also be used for juicing as well. If you dont have a juicer but you have a blender, you can strain out the juice with this bag as well. So worth it!

RECIPE.

  1. In a blender, pour 3 cups of oats.

  2. Add 7 cups of filtered water.

  3. Add the vanilla extract, maple syrup and dates.

  4. Blend on medium or high pulse for 30 seconds to a minute - Its important to note to NOT over blend this or let it sit once you’ve added your ingredients because then your oat milk will become too thick and have a bit of a slimy texture.

  5. Once blended, give it a taste to see if you want it a bit sweeter. You can sweeten it more by adding 1 more tsp of maple syrup or 1 more date.

  6. Strain your oat milk by using your nutbag over a pitcher, little by little.

  7. After each strain remove the residue of oats in the bag each time so that with each strain, you're able to get the most liquid out.

  8. Once fully strained add your oat milk to a glass bottle and place in fridge.
